Guest Post Rules
1. Quality & Content Standards
The “Golden Rule” of guest posting is that the content must provide value to the reader, not just the search engine.
Originality: The post must be 100% unique. Most editors use plagiarism checkers and will reject anything previously published elsewhere (including your own blog).
Relevance: The topic must align with the host site’s niche. A tech blog isn’t going to publish your (admittedly great) sourdough recipe.
Word Count: Most sites look for a “sweet spot” between 800 and 1,500 words. Long-form, deep-dive content usually performs better.
Formatting: Use headers (H2, H3), bullet points, and short paragraphs. No one wants to read a “wall of text.”
2. Linking & SEO Ethics
This is where most people get tripped up. Most sites have strict policies to prevent “link spam.”
The “No-Follow” Rule: Many high-authority sites apply rel="nofollow" to external links to satisfy Google’s spam policies. Don’t be offended; it’s standard practice.
Internal Linking: Including 1–2 links to the host’s existing articles shows you’ve done your homework and helps their SEO.
External Linking: Links to your own site are usually restricted to the Author Bio. In-text links should only go to reputable, non-competing sources (like studies or news).
